Fabric Sourcing Service for Fashion Brands

Fabric is the foundation of every garment. The right fabric makes a t-shirt feel premium, a hoodie last for years, and a dress drape beautifully. The wrong fabric ruins the most expensive pattern. SDF Clothing's fabric sourcing service connects fashion brands with verified fabric mills across Bangladesh — for knit, woven, organic, and recycled materials at competitive prices with full traceability.

Why Source Fabric from Bangladesh?

Bangladesh has one of the world's largest vertically integrated textile manufacturing ecosystems. The country produces fabric for its own $47 billion garment export industry, plus exports raw fabric globally. This scale gives buyers competitive pricing, wide fabric variety, and short lead times.

Most international fashion brands sourcing fabric from Bangladesh save 20-40% compared to European or American suppliers. Lead times are also faster because fabric mills are located within 100 km of garment factories, eliminating shipping delays between fabric and production.

Fabric Types We Source

  • Canvas and duck cloth for outerwear
  • Linen and cotton-linen blends for summer wear

  • TENCEL Lyocell from sustainable wood pulp
  • BCI Better Cotton for mass market production
  • Hemp and linen blends for natural fiber brands

Performance and Specialty Fabrics

  • Anti-bacterial and odor-resistant blends
  • UV-protective fabrics for outdoor apparel
  • Stretch fabrics with spandex (4-8% blends)
  • Brushed fabrics for soft-handle premium tees

Fabric Certifications We Source

GOTS certification means organic fiber from farm to finished fabric, with no toxic chemicals and fair labor across the supply chain. Required for legal organic claims in EU and UK markets.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies that finished fabric is free from harmful substances. Required by EU REACH regulations for chemical safety.

GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certifies recycled material content. Required for credible recycled claims to retailers and consumers.

OCS (Organic Content Standard) certifies organic fiber percentage in fabric — sometimes used instead of GOTS for less stringent requirements.

BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) certifies cotton grown with reduced pesticide use and better water management. Not organic but more sustainable than conventional cotton.

Our Fabric Sourcing Process

Step 1

Brief and requirements

You tell us what you need — fabric type, weight, composition, color, certifications, quantity, and budget. We can also work from a sample garment if you have a reference fabric.

Step 2

Mill matching

We match your requirements with verified mills from our network. We share 3-5 fabric options that fit your specifications, with pricing, MOQ, and lead time for each.

Step 3

Sample fabric

You receive small fabric swatches (10cm x 10cm typical) for evaluation. You check handfeel, color accuracy, and quality before committing to bulk fabric order.

Step 4

Bulk fabric production

After your approval, the mill produces the fabric in your required quantity. Lead time is typically 20-30 days for woven fabrics and 15-25 days for knit fabrics.

Step 5

Quality inspection

We inspect fabric before delivery to your garment factory — checking weight, shrinkage, color fastness, and visual defects. AQL 2.5 standard is applied.

Step 6

Delivery to your factory

Fabric is delivered directly to the garment factory producing your collection. If SDF Clothing is also producing your garments, fabric goes directly to our cutting room.

Fabric MOQ — Minimum Order Quantity

Mills have different minimum fabric orders depending on fabric type and customization level.

Stock fabrics with standard colors: Knit fabrics: 100-200 kg minimum. Woven fabrics: 500-1,000 meters minimum.

Custom-dyed fabrics with your color specification: Knit fabrics: 300-500 kg minimum. Woven fabrics: 1,500-3,000 meters minimum.

Custom-developed fabrics with unique blend or construction: Typically 1,000+ kg or 5,000+ meters. Requires development time of 30-60 days.

For small orders that fall below mill MOQ, we sometimes consolidate fabric orders from multiple brands or use stock fabrics already produced by the mill.

Fabric Pricing in Bangladesh

Fabric is priced per meter (woven) or per kilogram (knit). Prices vary by fiber, weight, construction, and certification.

Typical FOB Bangladesh fabric prices:

  • Conventional cotton single jersey 180gsm: $3.50-5.50 per kg
  • GOTS organic cotton single jersey 180gsm: $5.00-8.00 per kg (40-60% premium for organic)
  • Conventional polyester woven 80gsm: $1.20-2.00 per meter
  • Recycled polyester (GRS) 80gsm: $1.80-2.80 per meter
  • Cotton denim 12oz: $3.50-5.00 per meter
  • Linen and cotton-linen blends: $4.00-7.00 per meter

Organic and certified fabrics typically cost 20-50% more than conventional equivalents. The premium reflects organic farming costs, certification fees, and supply chain traceability documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you source fabric without using SDF for garment production?

Yes. Our fabric sourcing service is available as a standalone service. You can buy fabric from us and have it delivered to your own garment factory anywhere in the world. This is sometimes called CMT-ready fabric supply.

How long does fabric sourcing take?

From your initial brief to fabric delivery typically takes 25-45 days. Stock fabrics ship in 10-15 days. Custom-dyed fabrics take 25-35 days. Custom-developed fabrics take 45-60 days.

Do you provide fabric certificates with every order?

Yes. Every certified fabric order includes the appropriate Transaction Certificate (TC) — GOTS, GRS, OCS, or OEKO-TEX as applicable. The TC is your legal proof for sustainability and organic claims to retailers and regulators.

What is the minimum fabric order from your network?

Stock fabrics: 100-200 kg for knits or 500-1,000 meters for wovens. Custom-dyed: 300-500 kg or 1,500+ meters. Custom-developed fabrics typically 1,000+ kg minimum.

Can you match a specific fabric I have used before?

Yes. Send us a fabric swatch with weight and composition information. We will match the specification through our mill network and provide a sample for your approval.

What payment terms do you offer for fabric orders?

Standard terms are 30% deposit on order confirmation and 70% before shipment. For established buyers we can arrange letter of credit or net 30 payment terms.
