Apparel Manufacturing — Key Numbers
The eight numbers international buyers ask before anything else.
From 25 Machines to a Full-Package Apparel Manufacturer — Dhaka, 1998 to Now
SDF Clothing started on August 22, 1998 — twenty-five sewing machines, a modest space in Dhaka's textile district, and a single conviction: that a Bangladesh apparel factory could compete on quality, transparency, and reliability, not just price. Chowdhury Remon, who founded the company, had spent years working in the garment industry before deciding that the right approach was to build a factory that served international brands directly — no buying house layer, no agent commission, no opacity between the brand and where its clothes were made.
The first EU export client arrived in 2003. ISO 9001 quality certification came in 2011. GOTS organic certification and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 followed in 2017, driven by EU market demand from the brands we were already supplying. BSCI and SEDEX SMETA social compliance certification was added in 2019. By 2021, the factory had expanded to its current 75,000 sq ft facility with dedicated production lines for knitwear, woven apparel, and outerwear.
Today SDF Clothing is a full-package apparel manufacturer serving 200+ brands across 36 countries. Full-package means exactly what it says: we source fabric, develop patterns, produce samples, run bulk production, apply branding and embroidery, conduct AQL 2.5 inspection, pack, and arrange FOB shipment from Chittagong port. The brand sends a tech pack. We send finished, certified, compliant apparel ready for retail.
There is a meaningful difference between a CMT factory (which cuts, makes, and trims from fabric you supply) and a full-package apparel manufacturer (which handles the complete supply chain). At SDF Clothing, full-package means:
- Fabric sourcing from our vetted GOTS, OEKO-TEX, and GRS certified mills
- Pattern making, grading, and size spec development
- Proto and pre-production sampling — 14-day turnaround
- Bulk production with in-line QC at every stage
- Embroidery, screen printing, DTF, sublimation in-house
- AQL 2.5 final inspection before shipment approval
- Complete compliance documentation and FOB shipping
- OEM — Original Equipment Manufacturing from your tech pack and specifications
- Private Label — Full branding, labelling, and packaging under your brand identity
- CMT — Cut, Make, Trim from your supplied fabric and trims
- ODM — Our design development adapted to your target market and buyer

Founder's Vision
"When we started SDF Clothing in 1998, the goal was not to be the cheapest apparel factory in Bangladesh. It was to be the most trustworthy. We believed — and still believe — that a Bangladesh apparel manufacturer can deliver the same quality as any factory in Europe, with the same ethical standards and the same supply chain transparency. 27+ years later, 200+ international brands agree. Every certification, every documented process, every worker trained — all of it serves one purpose: when a brand sources apparel from SDF Clothing, they know exactly what they are getting and where it came from."

300 pieces per style — across OEM, private label, CMT, and ODM. Size distribution within the 300 pieces is fully flexible. Multiple styles on the same purchase order each carry their own 300-piece minimum. A startup brand ordering two styles at 300 pieces each (600 total) is a standard first order — no higher MOQ for new clients, no trial order surcharges.
Three things most clients mention: 300-piece MOQ — most Bangladesh apparel factories start at 500–1,000 pieces per style. Full-chain GOTS certification — many factories claim to use organic cotton but cannot issue a GOTS certificate of conformity for your organic labelling claim. We can, because our certification covers every stage from fibre to finished apparel. EU EPR 2026 readiness — we generate Digital Product Passport data files as standard for EU orders. Most Bangladesh apparel manufacturers are not doing this yet. Beyond those, direct factory access means pricing transparency that a buying house or agent cannot offer.
Proto sample: 14 days from confirmed brief, DHL Express to your door. Pre-production sample: 10 days after proto approval. Bulk production: 30–45 days from PP sample sign-off. Total first-order time from brief to FOB Chittagong: 55–65 days. Repeat orders run faster — fabric and PP approval already in place. Ocean freight to EU ports (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Genova): 22–28 additional transit days. Air freight to major EU/UK airports: 4–5 days.
No. Bangladesh holds EU GSP EBA (Everything But Arms) status — 0% import duty on most apparel (HS chapters 61 and 62) into all 27 EU member states and the UK under the UK GSP scheme. Standard EU MFN duty on clothing is 12% of CIF value — on a €100,000 order that is €12,000 saved versus sourcing from China or other non-GSP countries. We prepare EUR.1 Movement Certificates for every EU and UK shipment. See our Italy page, Germany page, or UK page for country-specific duty and customs detail.
Yes — and the distinction matters. We hold full-chain GOTS certification: from raw organic cotton sourcing through spinning, dyeing, cutting, sewing, and finishing at our Dhaka factory. Transaction certificates are issued at each stage. The GOTS certificate of conformity we provide with your order is the legal document that authorises your organic labelling claim in EU, UK, and USA markets. A factory that uses organic cotton but lacks GOTS scope certification cannot issue this — you cannot legally label the garments as organic without it.
Yes. The 300-piece MOQ exists specifically because smaller brands deserve direct factory access too. A founder placing a debut collection at 300 pieces per style gets the same factory, the same certifications, the same quality control process, and the same compliance documentation as a brand ordering 50,000 pieces. Price per piece differs with volume — the production standard does not. We have worked with brands from their first-ever order through to large repeat accounts. Both are important to us.
Yes. Factory visits are welcome for verified business partners — we encourage them. Third-party social and environmental audits at our facility are fully supported: SGS, Bureau Veritas, and Intertek all conduct audits here. If your retail buyer requires a specific audit format, we work with you to schedule it. We have nothing to hide. Factory transparency is a basic expectation of doing business with international brands, not a favour we grant selectively.
