Single jersey is the standard t-shirt knit — smooth face, light stretch, the base for most basic tees. Combed ringspun cotton uses a finer, more uniform yarn than carded cotton, giving a softer hand-feel and cleaner print surface — the usual choice for premium fashion tees. Piqué knit has a slightly textured, waffle-like surface and is more common on polo-style shirts, while slub jersey has an intentionally irregular yarn thickness for a worn-in, vintage look.
GSM (grams per square meter) is the main lever for how a t-shirt feels and drapes. 140–160gsm is lightweight — drapey, good for hot climates and fashion-forward fits. 180–200gsm is the most common mid-weight range for everyday retail tees, balancing structure and comfort. 200–220gsm is heavyweight — the streetwear-standard boxy, structured feel that holds screen prints and embroidery especially well.
Neckline finishing affects both look and durability. A ribbed crew neck (1x1 or 2x1 rib) is the standard, cost-effective choice. Banded necklines (self-fabric folded rather than separate ribbing) give a cleaner, more premium look but add a construction step. V-necks need accurate rib-tape mitering at the point to avoid puckering — we flag this at the tech pack stage since it's a common quality-control failure point on lower-tier factories.
